SafeDeposits has gone from strength to strength since launching and we will be releasing a birthday report later this month to give you a little peek inside the scheme from over the past two years.
We understand that the introduction of tenancy deposit schemes has been a steep learning curve for those living and working in the sector, but we think everyone has come a long way since 2012. Thank you to everyone who has attended our workshops and read our guidance documents - we hope that these have helped landlords, letting agents and tenants know how to get the most from SafeDeposits.
Our timeline below shows the progress of SafeDeposits since the introduction of the Tenancy Deposit Schemes (Scotland) Regulations 2011.
The Tenancy Deposit Schemes (Scotland) Regulations 2011 were introduced in Scotland
We held a round of information seminars for landlords and letting agents to raise awareness of the Regulations and how to comply
The Scottish Government granted us a licence to operate a tenancy deposit scheme
Our Glasgow-based call centre went live to help answer your questions
2nd July 2012
We officially launched and started accepting deposits!
By our one month anniversary 1,200 landlords and letting agents had already registered as users and the number of deposits transferred hit £750,000
We held our first round of information drop-in sessions for landlords and letting agents
This was the first key deadline date - deposits received on or after 2nd October 2012 have to be transferred to a scheme within 30 working days of the beginning of the tenancy
This was the second key deadline date - deposits received between 7th March 2011 and 2nd October 2012 had to be transferred to a scheme by 13th November 2012
We were happy to announce that on 1st January 2013 we held approximately £40m of deposits!
We increased the staff in our call centre by 50% to support the high numbers of landlords and letting agents continuing to register with us
We also started to increase the number of staff working in our operations, accounts and adjudication teams, welcoming Victoria Nixon as our Client Account Manager, Paula Joynson as our Office Supervisor, and Nichola Martin and Alan Hughes as administrative assistants
We held our second round of information drop-in sessions for landlords and letting agents
We launched our online evidence portal, which means users can upload evidence directly through their SafeDeposits account, saving time and postage costs if there's a dispute over the deposit repayment
We held our first round of free adjudication workshops, to help landlords and letting agents know what to expect and how to present their claim if there's a dispute at the end of the tenancy
This was the final deadline to transfer existing deposits - as the Regulations are retrospective, all deposits taken prior to the launch of the schemes had to be transferred by this date
We started to publish monthly adjudication digests, to give landlords, letting agents and tenants a closer look at real disputes and evidence, to give a better understanding of how our adjudicators reach their decisions
We held our second round of free adjudication workshops for landlords and letting agents
We launched Live Chat, an instant messaging service on the 'Contact us' page of our website, to give our users another choice of how to contact us
We moved to a bigger office - a necessity for our expanding team!
We held our third round of free adjudication workshops for landlords and letting agents
As you can see, we've been keeping busy since 2012! This is just some of what we've been up to - our report will provide a better insight into SafeDeposits, including the disputes we have handled since launching. You can keep up-to-date with SafeDeposits - including the release of our report - through our newsletter and our Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn.
