This month we're celebrating five years since the launch of tenancy deposit schemes in Scotland. The new requirement to protect tenancy deposits was introduced by the Scottish Government and we opened for business from our Glasgow city centre office on 2nd July 2012. Five years later, we're delighted to have become the country's leading tenancy deposit scheme, protecting almost 60% of the market, more than all the other schemes combined. We've recently reached a further milestone as well - we now hold £80million of tenancy deposits, which is an incredible position to be in.

Getting to this point is down, in no small part, to the way that SafeDeposits Scotland was set up. We're an innovative partnership of leading private rented sector members, which positions us at the forefront of the industry. ARLA Propertymark, Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors, Tenancy Deposit Scheme and the Scottish Association of Landlords have been with us from day one, bringing their experience of operating in Scotland to set and raise standards within the private rented sector. We are thankful to our partners for their support, advice and guidance over the past five years.

There has been the contribution of some incredible people on our staff too. A large number of our Glasgow office, finance team and adjudicators have been with us for most of the five years. It's our colleagues, both past and present, who have made SafeDeposits Scotland the company it is today.

Looking to the future, while we have received an exceptional response from the Scottish private rented sector, we cannot be complacent. We will continue to strive for the highest levels of customer satisfaction, and provide assistance to our users to increase awareness of the benefits of independent dispute resolution for all sides.

As the only not-for-profit tenancy deposit scheme, we're also looking forward to the value which our related charity, the SafeDeposits Scotland Trust, will continue to bring to the sector. With a recent grant of over £40,000 to overhaul the Renting Scotland website, an online information hub for landlords and tenants, the Trust will continue to fund projects which promote and facilitate education, training and best practice in the Scottish private rented sector.

We would also like to take this opportunity to every landlord and letting agent who has chosen us as their tenancy deposit scheme. It is with your support and feedback that we have reached where we are today. We look forward to continuing to work together.

Here's to the next five years!
