Fair Wear and Tear - What is it?Scottish Tenancy Deposit Academy - Training Course 1
SafeDeposits is teaming up with Landlord Accreditation Scotland. We’re launching a new training scheme for landlords and property professionals, The Scottish Tenancy Deposit Academy.
Course 1 provides a wealth of information for those dealing with the intricacies of managing tenancy deposits and is running in five locations across Scotland. Course 2 will be offered early in 2019 and will provide an in depth look at adjudication.
The Scottish Tenancy Deposit Academy will provide training in tenant communication, deposit protection and tenancy deposit disputes. As well as providing practical insights and advice, the sessions will count towards 5 hours of Continuing Professional Development (CPD) for agents. Landlords are also very welcome to attend. The training is designed to give sufficient time for an in-depth look at the course content. A light lunch is provided at all the courses.

Learning outcomes
Having completed this module, you will know and understand how to:
- manage the deposit from receipt to check-out
- how to manage change during a tenancy
- develop good communication methods to facilitate a smooth end to a tenancy
You will also cover remedies to assist with problems should they occur, and actions following the end of a tenancy.
Who should attend?
Letting agency staff who are dealing with deposits at the start and end of tenancies as well as those involved in putting forward evidence for disputes. This course is also ideal for those who are carrying out property inspections to ensure that they are aware of the requirement of evidence not just at the end but throughout a tenancy. Adjudication workshops
We're holding adjudication workshops this autumn to help landlords and letting agents know how best to present their evidence if there is a dispute at the end of a tenancy.
Refresher workshops
We're holding refresher workshops for landlords and letting agents who have attended our workshops previously and wish to build on their existing knowledge.
The refresher workshops will follow a different format from previous workshops, with an hour on 'Top 10 Issues and How to Avoid Them', followed by an open Q&A session.
The 'Top 10 Issues' will focus on adjudication questions (e.g. claims in excess of the deposit, inventories for mid-tenancy changeovers, etc.), but there will also be time for general questions on using our system.
